Fushiji Yuugi is the classic shoujo about a girl who is transported inside a magic book and she finds herself in a place that resembles ancient China, the Universe of the Four Gods. There, she becomes the priestess of the god Suzaku and is charged with finding all seven of her protectors.

Fushigi Yuugi, for all its melodrama, is a worthwhile read. It's a manga soap opera, really.
